To find the security options, go to the home page, then find the top-right menu of your app, and the second option is the security menu.
On the security menu, you can access your Secret Phrase and copy it. You can tap to manage your cloud backup.
The second option is to allow biometric authentication.
How to protect your Secret Recovery Phrase
- Write it down offline: Use a pen and paper. Never take a photo of it, type it into a notes app, or save it to a cloud service like iCloud or Google Drive. Hackers constantly scan for images and text files that look like recovery phrases.
- Zero sharing: No legitimate company, support agent, or "verification" website will ever ask for your phrase. If they do, it is a scam.
- Physical Protection: For simplicity, you can write it on notebooks that you will keep safe. Store your recovery phrase in two separate, secure physical locations (e.g., one at home in a safe, one in a bank deposit box). For long-term security, some people use metal backup plates (stainless steel or titanium) that can survive fire and floods.
Other ways to protect your funds
Beware of "Wallet Drainers": Scammers often create fake websites for "free airdrops" or "NFT mints." When you connect your wallet and approve, you might be giving a malicious contract permission to empty your entire balance. Only connect your wallet to websites you 100% trust.
Be careful with scams:
Tether wallet does not offer investment advice services.
We will not contact you directly to offer services.
Tether wallet does not collect taxes on your behalf.
Enable Cloud Backup
Tether Wallet allows you to use Cloud Backup. Here is how it works:
The app generates a special encryption key on your device, uses it to encrypt your wallet data, then stores the encrypted data on Tether servers and the encryption key in your personal cloud account (iCloud on iPhone or Google Drive on Android).
This means no single party can access your wallet alone. Tether only holds encrypted data that is unreadable without your key, and your cloud account only holds the key without the wallet data. Both parts are needed together, and they are only combined on your device when you log in.
